Questionable economic policies are not comparable to abortion

I'm getting tired of the people who justify supporting the Democratic Party and pro-abortion politicians by arguing that the Republicans support the rich over the poor.

First of all, it's a false point about the Republicans. Some do indeed favor the rich - so do some Democrats - but many sincerely believe that their economic policies will help the poor. Those policies can be debated, but Republicans and Conservatives are not just heartless mercenaries.

Moreover, even if it is true, the moral scales are very different.

We are dealing with prudential judgment vs. a non-negotiable.

We are talking about stealing vs. murder.

Stealing a person's wallet is bad. Killing a person is worse.

Is it possible to be a pro-life Democrat. Yes. But around here you would not be electable.

It's more likely that one can be a pro-life Republican who really does care about the poor. And you can get elected.

Pax et bonum
