While cleaning out some old boxes stuck in the attic crawl space I came across a letter from a distant relative who was into genealogy. I had earlier posted about my father's roots though his father. But this relative had traced back my grandmother's roots.
Turns out that branch of the family also goes back to colonial times!
Bessie Belle (Newton) Strong (1912-99) is descended from Jeremiah Meacham, who was born in 1613 in Bristol, England. The next date in his record is his marriage in 1642 to a woman named Margaret in Salem, Massachusetts - so obviously he emigrated to the colonies some time before that year.
So that side of my father's family arrived before 1642, and the other side of his family descended from "Elder" John Strong, who arrived in Massachusetts from England around 1630.

They had Jeremiah Meacham in 1613 in Bristol England. He died November 11, 1696, in Salem Massachusetts.
- Married a woman named Margaret (1617-79) in 1642 in Salem.
They had Jeremiah Meacham II January 3, 1643/44 in Salem. He died April 14, 1743 in Windham Connecticut. About 100 years old!
- Married Deborah Browne (1673-1731) on May 25, 1693.
They had Samuel Meacham on July 12, 1712, in Windham.
- Married Bethia Pease January 11, 1733/34 in Enfield, Hartford, Connecticut.
They had Samuel Meacham II on November 15, 1739, in Lebanon, Connecticut.
- Married Phepe (?) Main March 31, 1763, in Stonington Connecticut.
They had Joseph Andrew Meacham on December 12, 1781 in Massachusetts (city unknown)
- Married Abigail Eastman, date and place unknown.
They had Mary E. Meacham September 5, 1832, in New York, city unnamed.
- Married John Keeler about 1849, place unknown.
They had Aaron Runa Keeler on November 6, 1857, in Niles Hill, New York.
- Married Lorana Belle Wetmore November 7, 1879, in Kettle Creek, Pennsylvania.
They had Nina Irene Keeler (later Newton) on February 22, 1888, in Pennsylvania (city unlisted)
- Married William George Newton on an unlisted date.
They had Bessie Belle Newton January 12, 1912, in Little Valley, New York. She is my father's mother, and my grandmother.
